Wiener Festwochen 2016
Established in 1951 the Wiener Festwochen are one of the most important annual events in the cultural calendar. They are an addition to the round-the-year programs. As a matter of fact the Wiener Festwochen are schedule at a time of the year that bridges the end of one season with the beginning of the next – namely during May and June. It provides productions that would otherwise not be funded.
The program focus always tries to stay homogenous and with this the Wiener Festwochen try to provide its local and international audience with high-quality cultural productions. Special festival productions, joint productions and guest performances are on the agenda. With this the Wiener Festwochen try to be a reflection of current trends of the cultural scene of Vienna.
This year’s Wiener Festwochen take place from 13 May until 19 June and are under the artistic director Markus Hinterhaeuser. The Wiener Festwochen with its program attract around 180 000 visitors every year.
