Christmas cookies: Our suggestion
We mark the beginning of December and in Vienna this means the start of cookie baking time. Because we know that baking cookies well in advance of Christmas. Stored in the right box gives them time to get softer. One of the most favorite cookies in Vienna during Christmas time are the so-called Vanillekipferl (crescent-shaped vanilla flavored cookies).
And we thought we might give you our favorite recipe so that you can try these wonderful cookies at home.
So now this is what you are going to need:
180 g butter
70 g of shelled and ground almonds
50 g sugar
2 egg yolks
210 g plain flour
and here is how you make them:
Mix all ingredients quickly to get a short-crust dough. Leave the dough in a cold place for an hour. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1 cm before cutting into small pieces and forming crescent-shaped cookies. Put some baking paper on an ungreased baking tray and place the cookies there. Bake at 200°C for about 10 minutes until they turn light-brown. Mix icing sugar and vanilla sugar together, then toss the hot cookies in the mix.
Put your finished cookies in a nice sealed tin box and store them for a few days before you enjoy them. Either share them with others – or not.
